Bringing an old one back

Stuffed animal and teddy bear restoration

53 of the 117 businesses we have read in the United States restore, restuff or bring back the fur on a worn stuffed animal. Sorted by where they are, because that is usually the question.

Answer five questions

Decide this before you send it

Keep the wear, or make it look new?

Restorers split on this, and it is the thing most likely to disappoint you if nobody asks. Some repair what is there and leave the bald patches and the soft, squashed shape that make it look like yours. Others replace fur, filling and features until it looks close to new, which some people love and some people find is no longer the same stuffed animal.

2

The other 31 do not say. That is most of them, so tell them which you want when you get in touch.

41 that say where they are

12 that do not say where they are

Several of these take work by mail from anywhere, so a missing town is not the same as a missing option.

After a fire or a flood

That is mostly a different trade, usually paid through your insurer rather than hired directly. Who handles fire, flood and smoke damage.

Questions people ask

Can an old stuffed animal be restored?
Usually, yes. 53 of the 117 businesses we have read in the United States say they do full restoration, restuffing or fur work. Worn fur, thinning seams, flat or lumpy filling and missing eyes are all ordinary jobs for them. What changes the answer is fragile fabric that tears when it is stitched, and every one of them will want to see it before promising anything.
Where can I get my stuffed animal restuffed?
31 of the businesses on this page say they restuff. Few say what happens to the old filling: 0 say they keep some or all of it, 5 say they replace it, and 2 let you choose. If the old filling matters to you, ask before you send it, because once it is gone it is gone.
Will restoration make it look new?
Only if you ask for that, and not every restorer will do it. Of the 22 businesses here that say which way they lean, 12 keep the wear and repair what is there, 8 will make it look new, and 2 agree the level with you first. The other 31 do not say, so ask.
Do I have to take it in, or can I post it?
25 of them say they take work by mail. The rest either want it in person or do not say. Each listing shows which.
